CSA Alouette Satellite
CSA Alouette Satellite
The CSA Alouette, Canada's first satellite, represents a historic milestone in the nation's space endeavours. Launched on September 29, 1962, Alouette was a pioneering venture by the Canadian government in collaboration with NASA. It marked Canada's emergence as a significant player in the field of space science.
Alouette's primary mission was to investigate Earth's ionosphere and study its effects on radio wave propagation. Equipped with a suite of scientific instruments, including ionospheric sounders and radiometers, the satellite provided crucial data about the ionosphere's composition and behaviour.
The success of Alouette paved the way for subsequent Canadian space missions, including the Alouette-2 and ISIS (International Satellites for Ionospheric Studies) programs. These missions continued to advance Canada's expertise in space science and technology.
