NASA/ESA Cluster II
NASA/ESA Cluster II
Cluster II, a continuation of the Cluster mission, is a collaborative endeavour between NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) aimed at advancing our understanding of Earth's magnetosphere and its interactions with the solar wind. This mission, consisting of four identical spacecraft, extends and enhances the scientific observations and investigations of the original Cluster mission.
Launched in 2000, Cluster II carries a suite of scientific instruments to measure the magnetic fields, plasma properties, and electric fields within the magnetosphere. By analyzing these data, scientists gain insights into the dynamics and complex processes that occur in Earth's magnetosphere, contributing to our knowledge of space weather and its impacts on Earth.
