NASA James Webb Space Telescope
The NASA James Webb Space Telescope (JWST), often referred to as Webb, stands as a monumental advancement in space exploration and astronomy. Launched in December 2021, the JWST boasts an array of cutting-edge scientific instruments, including the Near Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec), Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI), and Near Infrared Camera (NIRCam). This advanced technology will enable Webb to observe the universe in unprecedented detail.
One of the most eagerly anticipated aspects of the JWST is its capacity to peer deep into the past, studying the universe's early galaxies, stars, and planetary systems. It will also explore the atmospheres of exoplanets, seeking signs of habitability or even life.
Positioned at the second Lagrange point (L2), approximately 1.5 million kilometres from Earth, it will operate beyond the Moon's orbit, allowing it to conduct observations with minimal interference from Earth's atmosphere.
